The question behind WageNow

Every day
has value.

Businesses negotiate when customers pay and when suppliers are paid. Payroll is rarely given the same attention.

We think it should be. WageNow brings a financial-markets perspective to one of a business’s biggest cash flows, so more of your cash can stay at work.

Our beginnings

From trading desks
to payroll.

A simple observation from financial markets, applied to the everyday life of a business.

As a fixed-income trader at JPMorgan, Peter worked with the value of time every day. A payment settling on Monday rather than Tuesday changed what it was worth. Weekends, holidays and settlement dates all mattered.

Later, at JPMorgan Asset Management, he led work using Chase banking data to understand how money moves through the economy. One recurring flow stood out: payroll. Large, predictable and still tied to a familiar weekly or monthly rhythm.

If a single day matters in financial markets, why is payroll timing so often treated as a given?

An old clock. A new question.

Why should a modern business run on a 19th-century payroll clock?

Payroll once meant manual calculations, paper records and the work of getting cash or cheques into people’s hands. Software and electronic payments transformed that process. Yet the fixed pay cycle still shapes when companies build up cash and pay it out.

Employees have started to get more say over when they are paid. Peter asked the other half of the question: could employers gain flexibility too, while their people still received the same total on their normal payday?

What we are here to do

Make payroll part of your strategy.

That question became WageNow. We work with employers and their people across Europe.

In the UK, WageNow helps employers retain more cash through payroll, while employees receive the same total on their normal payday.
